Hands have an important significance in Buddhist statuary, and are often arranged in mudras. Mudras are a non-verbal mode of communication and self-expression, consisting of hand gestures and finger-postures. One of the wooden hands holds a teardrop-shaped vial that is said to contain the waters of endless compassion.
