Taking inspiration from the geometric abstractions of El Lissitzky and the narrative stylization of 12th-century Japanese and early Renaissance paintings, the works play with possibilities of parallel perspective, shifting and folding pockets of space within the composition. Used as instruments to plot her composition before enlarging it onto canvas, together these studies chart Larsen's progression from geometric abstraction toward an uncanny representation of inhabitable space. The vertiginous space she renders offers a familiar version of reality that is analogous yet alien to our own.Exhibitions
