Mining the American craft tradition of pushpin-beaded fruit, Ryan encrusts the carved form’s surface with glass and acrylic beads to delineate “fresh” parts and semiprecious stone beads for “rotten” areas, a conceptual and material subversion through which she explores ideas of value, desire and overconsumption.1of 2
