The following diagram, entitled “Der Strom der Zeiten oder bildliche Darstellung der Weltgeschichte” (translated as The river of time, a pictorial representation of world history) depicts a chronological representation of...The following diagram, entitled “Der Strom der Zeiten oder bildliche Darstellung der Weltgeschichte” (translated as The river of time, a pictorial representation of world history) depicts a chronological representation of the history of mostly European civilizations from the beginning of recorded time until 1800, with corresponding tables on both sides of the chart. The document traces the lineage of each world civilization, such as the Greek or Assyrians, and mapping their progression into modern day nations. The “rivers of time” include royal houses and significant historical figures.
On top of the canvas, Báez has painted a set of smiling, pearly white teeth. According to the artist, they were modeled after Kate Middleton’s teeth and thin-lipped smile as a commentary on the physical effects that royalty, and proximity to power, can bring upon people.Exhibitions
