Based on his monumental installation at Paddington Elizabeth Line Station in London of the same name, Spencer Finch’s new artist book, "A Cloud Index," celebrates the intangible beauty and ephemeral nature of clouds.

Each edition of "A Cloud Index" includes a unique pastel drawing, and two folios enclosed within a simple gray cloth case. These two thirty-page folios contain sixty reproductions of clouds alongside an explanatory text from the artist. When separated and placed according to the accompanying instructions, the drawings produce a unified composite of a cloudy sky, measuring roughly 40 inches in height by 280 inches in length. Finch depicts a range of cloud formations, from subtle cumulus clouds floating in place, to disparate and streaked cirrus clouds, cutting across the blue paper sky. The work dissects the intangible experiences of daily life and acknowledges that time and perception of the world passes similarly to clouds dissipating across a blue sky.
