“R-37, En el allá disparado desde ningún comienzo (R-37, There Within, Launched From No Beginning),” 1960 is a textured, horizontal composition in which a monochromatic painting is pierced by a horizontal white crevasse, which shows the interior of the canvas. By showing the interior Gramcko reveals the different layers of matter in which she worked with the potentiality of a pictorial surface treated as a geological territory devoid of life. The work is an exploration of the matter, delving into painting as a medium that reveals an in-depth dimension through its thickness and density. The inversion of the vertical axis for a horizontal one is a radical gesture that adds a discursive element to expand the limits of traditional painting. The work becomes a thing, freed from rules and conventions.
