In the book there are...Spencer was inspired by and thinking about this book by Emily Noyes Vanderpoel called Color Problems: A Practical Manual for the Lay Student of Color. In the book there are these color notes and Spencer was interested in the play between abstraction and representation. He was thinking about haiku-like observations of the world organized by season. The artist has created a suite of Color Notes from each of the four seasons. This suite of 25 watercolors represents colors observed in Autumn of 2019. -
