This work takes the shape of a horizontal ellipse, identical in form to its vertically-oriented counterpart Mirror (The Library), and likewise constructed out of a composition of hexagonal wood pieces. The only geometric form with two center-points, the ellipse has long been considered to have mystical properties. Today, the shape is commonly used in maps or depictions of the entirety of the universe as would be viewed from the earth. In fact, the most famous image of the universe in cosmological history was shaped like an ellipse: the map projection of cosmic microwave background radiation that served to depict the energy left over from the Big Bang. The deep, deep blue of this horizontal “mirror” recalls the maps of the cosmic microwave background radiation of the universe, whose subtle and grainy background affirms its existence.
